Before I continue with today’s post—let me just say this . . . I realize that there was indeed a Saint Nicholas who went around and did good deeds throughout his community. I understand that carrying on his tradition and legend by giving children gifts on Christmas is fun and creates lasting memories. I have no problem with Santa, and can remember having fun as a child myself. That being said, I wish we would all focus more on Jesus. After all, it’s His party. I heard this song the other day playing in a store. As I listened to the traditional, fun-loving classic…I thought about the words as I hummed along. Sometimes it seems that we as a society try to instill a fear into our children to do right because of the consequences of Santa. It’s like we want them to fear him and to be concerned that he’s always watching, and he’s going to come back and judge those who have been naughty and nice. So, I decided to rewrite the lyrics just a bit to put emphasizes where it should really be—back on Jesus. He’s the only One who knows everything—and who is really coming back (in fact, who’s to say He hasn’t already made His presence known here on earth already–now that’s food for thought, huh). Anyway, I still think it’s okay to sing about Santa—but I just wanted to throw this out there too.
We love you Jesus and hope that you always feel invited to come to our house and find us diligently striving to be on Your Nice list! : )
You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I’m telling you why
Jesus Christ is coming to town
He’s making a list
And checking it twice;
Already knows Who’s naughty and nice
Jesus Christ is coming to town
He sees you when you’re sleeping
He knows when you’re awake
He knows if you’ve been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I’m telling you why
Jesus Christ is coming to town
Jesus Christ is coming to town
